Brendon McCullum, the recently appointed head coach of white-ball cricket for England, has called Jos Buttler, the team’s captain, the best white-ball player ever.
Having taken charge of England’s Test team only since June 2022, McCullum has also recently assumed additional responsibilities with a new role as head coach for white-ball cricket. The fact that his contract has been renewed until 2027 gives assurance for future employment.
Buttler’s great contributions to the side are seen in McCullum’s affirmation of his exceptional abilities and accomplishments within white ball format footballing games. With Buttler spearheading and McCullum at the helm; the English side stands better chances when it comes to winning matches in this type of discipline in the years to come. This is due to McCullum’s extended contract as well as trust for Buttler.
“Jos Buttler has nothing left to prove”- Brendon McCullum
England’s white-ball team’s brand-new head coach Brendon McCullum welcomed the English white-ball team captain and celebrated an extraordinary career. He has nothing more to prove, said the former cricket player from New Zealand who also recently referred to him as the best white-ball player to don the England jersey.
“I think Jos has had an unbelievable career. If he were to retire tomorrow, he goes down as arguably the greatest white-ball player England has ever had. He has nothing left to prove,” McCullum told Sky Sports.
Buttler has also been amongst the best-performing batsmen in the version of the game that is the limited overs format for the past couple of years. They can afford to lose a player of his calibre though he played a decisive role in England’s success at the 2019 ODI World Cup where he scored an outstanding 59 in the final. In taking over the complete leadership from Eoin Morgan, he led the group in its conquest of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
However, after England’s inability to retain the ODI and T20 world cups the English team is in a transitional period at the moment. They are also expecting to infuse some new faces to be able to begin a new chapter of supremacy in international cricket.
