Justin Langer has slammed Micheal Vaughan for the Tweet he did following the Steve Smith episode at SCG. Smith was seen removing Rishabh Pant’s batting guard which Vaughan termed as “very very poor”. This tweet wasn’t taken lightly by Langer as he declared that Vaughan was out of line.

The Australia head coach spoke about the Smith incident and said that everything that is being said is ludicrous. Langer continued that Smith was just thinking about his batting and wasn’t trying to unsettle by getting rid of the batting guard of Rishabh Pant.

Langer pointed out that the day 5 SCG surface was like a concrete and Smith would have needed 15 inches spikes to mess up Pant’s guard. Coming back to Vaughan, an animated Langer declared that he does these comments only because he makes a living out of it.

“Everything said about Steve Smith is absolutely ludicrous … The wicket at the SCG was like concrete, he would’ve needed 15-inch spikes to do what people were accusing him of doing and messing up Pant’s guard”.

“We’ve laughed about how all he thinks about is batting. He was just standing there, thinking about batting. He is 100 percent innocent in this. Give me a break, I’ve never heard so much rubbish in my life”. he added.

“I’ve actually spoken to Darren Gough about it and rang him last night. I spoke to Michael Vaughan as well, I thought he was out of line actually. You get it from some, but I don’t expect it from (someone like Vaughan). I know he makes a living out of making those sorts of comments, but I thought he was out of line,” Langer told the press ahead of the 4th Test at Gabba, Brisbane.

Meanwhile, even the Austalia skipper Tim Paine supported Smith by claiming that he was just visualizing how he would bat on that SCG surface. It will be interesting to see how Smith answers his critics in the final Test match at Brisbane which begins from January 15.
