The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has taken action following the controversy over overpriced drinking water during the fifth and final T20I between India and New Zealand at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, January 31.
As per ANI, spectators were reportedly charged above the permitted rates at multiple stalls inside the venue. According to BCCI guidelines, the price of packaged drinking water was fixed at ₹10 for 200 ml, while energy drinks and juices were capped at ₹50 for 250 ml.
Vendors were instructed to clearly display prices at all counters, ensure adequate stock, and adhere to the eco-friendly ‘Green Protocol.’ The report further stated that the BCCI has assured appropriate action after complaints emerged about inflated prices at certain stalls.
The KCA also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to fans and confirmed that stricter steps would be implemented for upcoming matches at the stadium. Notably, the India–New Zealand fixture marked the first men’s international match at the venue in 26 months.
As reported by Times Now, the MCA Stadium in Pune was previously embroiled in a similar controversy, with spectators alleging that vendors charged ₹80 for 100 ml of drinking water during the second Test between India and New Zealand in 2024.
