Kevin Pietersen Condemns Racial Abuse Of England’s Footballers

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen slammed people for racially abusing England’s black footballers after their loss in the UEFA Euro 2020 finals against Italy.

Pietersen took to Twitter to condemn the racial attack. He tweeted, “The walk I took with Dylan to get our car home last night was scary absolutely HORRENDOUS! This behaviour in 2021?? The abuse of the players who gave us so much joy?? Do we actually deserve the 2030 World Cup?”

Pietersen also wrote, “The media in UK is probably the most powerful in the world. It should be a responsibility of theirs, to enforce the social media giants into verifying EVERY SINGLE PERSON that has an account. No robots & no fake accounts! ACCOUNTABILITY for all! It’s destroying society!”

England’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson also slammed the abusers. He tweeted, “This England team deserves to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media. Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves.”

England’s apex football body, The FA  also condemned the racial abuse of its players. The highlighted that the players have been at the receiving end of racial slurs throughout the tournament.

Euro 2020 finals winner decided on penalties

The Euro 2020 final between England and Italy, at the Wembley Stadium, London ended 1-1 at the end of extra time. The winner was decided on penalties.

The hosts, England got off to a phenomenal start. In just the second minute of the game,  Luke Shaw scored the fastest goal ever in a European Championship final. At halftime, England was ahead with a 1-0 lead. Italy’s Leonardo Bonucci scored the equalizer midway through the second half of the match. The match ended in a tie at the end of extra time.

In the penalties, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka missed their goals for England. Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved two penalties in a row to win the championship for his country.
