The Mumbai Indians have announced West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran as the captain of the MI Emirates in the second season of the ILT20 League. Meanwhile, another West Indies cricketer, Kieron Pollard will be leading the MI Cape Town in the SA20 league, announced the franchise on Sunday, January 7.

Mumbai Indians released a press note stating the major announcements ahead of the upcoming ILT20 and SA20 tournaments. Rashid Khan who led the MI Cape Town last year is uncertain for the upcoming season, as he is recovering from injury. Kieron Pollard will be leading the franchise in the tournament. He has been an integral member of the Mumbai Indians franchise across leagues.

“Kieron Pollard will be the captain for MI Cape Town in the second season of the SA20. Rashid Khan is unavailable currently, as he continues his recovery from injury. MI CT wish Rashid a quick recovery and looks to have him back on the playing field soon,” wrote the Mumbai Indians.

Nicholas Pooran to lead MI Emirates

Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard won’t be leading the MI Emirates this year in the ILT20 League. Nicholas Pooran has been handed over the leadership responsibilities by the Mumbai Indians. He slammed 355 runs for them last year at an average of 50.71. The MI Emirates will kick off their journey in the ILT20 league on January 20 against the Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Stadium.

“Nicholas Pooran will take over captain duties at MI Emirates ahead of the new season of ILT20. Fresh from captaining MI New York in the MLC Final and playing the knock of his life – a 137-run masterclass – Nicky P is all set to carry on the good work he did in the desert in the previous edition, this time hopefully taking us a step further,” wrote the Mumbai Indians.
