Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, is aiming to accomplish a historic first by defeating India in a Test series at home. Later this year, Cummins has the chance to reach this milestone in the five-match Border-Gavaskar series. India and Australia have a long-standing rivalry, with the Australians historically outperforming the Indians during the 20th century.

Nonetheless, since the year 2000 or so, things have started to look different. Excluding the two big victories on Australian soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21, India had won 8 out of 13 series against Australia. They prove that the forthcoming series acquires relevance due to this shift in relations of power.

To be able to beat Rohit Sharma’s team and that remains his checklist, Cummins is willing to tick this as done, this one big thing. When two giant cricketing nations are involved, there is no doubt that the Border-Gavaskar series as a tournament will be an interesting one. Indian cricket lovers can look forward to a face-off as India aims to dominate while Australia prepares for the redemption.

“We’ve lost the last two series”- Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins, the captain of the Australia National Cricket Team for Test and One-Day International matches, has expressed his intense desire to defeat the India National Cricket Team in a Test series.

Particularly in the mega-events, Pat Cummins has experienced tremendous success against India. In the ICC World Test Championship and ICC ODI World Cup finals, he led the Australians to thrilling victories over the Men in Blue. He hasn’t yet defeated India in a Test series while serving as captain, though.

“I think any time a team is under pressure, it’s not a bad thing if you’re playing against them. But they’ve been out here before and performed well. Our job is to try and keep them quiet, see how we go.” Cummins was quoted by AAP at the event in Sydney on Tuesday.

“It’s kind of the one big thing that I want to tick off. Particularly winning at home. Most Australians, me included, expect us to do well whenever we play at home. We’ve lost the (last) two series against them (in Australia), so this is a big one. We feel like our team is in a really good place, so we’ve got no reason (to think) why we shouldn’t perform really well. I just always expect us to do well against whoever we play. But India, particularly, is having a big year, big season” Pat Cummins added.
