KKR CEO Questions IPL 2025 Playing Conditions After No-Result Against RCB

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has reportedly reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to voice his dissatisfaction with the timing of the revised playing conditions introduced for IPL 2025.

According to the temporary changes, an extra hour has been added to the already existing additional time in response to frequent weather disruptions. These updates come amid the revised IPL 2025 schedule, which, due to its one-week shift, now coincides with the beginning of the monsoon season across parts of India.

The BCCI implemented this extra hour rule on May 21, making it applicable only to the remaining matches of the tournament. However, games that were already washed out prior to the update will not be reconsidered.

The RCB vs KKR match on May 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was abandoned without a ball bowled, ending KKR’s playoff hopes. KKR CEO Venky Mysore later wrote to BCCI COO Hemang Amin, expressing the franchise’s frustration over the rule change being introduced after the washout.

“While these mid-season changes to the rules may be necessary under the circumstances, one would have expected more consistency in the way such changes are being applied. When the IPL re-started (on May 17), it was clear that the first game on May 17 KKR vs RCB was at high risk of being interrupted due to rain in B’lore.”

“The forecast was there for all to see. Not only was the game washed out, but the additional 120 minutes now being applied may have provided a chance of at least a 5 over a side game (sic),” Mysore’s letter to the BCCI read (via Cricbuzz).

“The washout ended KKR’s chances of making the playoffs. Such ad hoc decisions and inconsistencies of applying them are not appropriate for a tournament of this standing. I am sure you also understand why we feel aggrieved,” he added.

KKR Suffer Second Washout Blow In IPL 2025

The Ajinkya Rahane-led team is the only franchise in IPL 2025 to have been involved in more than one match abandoned due to bad weather. Earlier in the season, their home game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was called off after the completion of the first innings.

Following the no-result against RCB, KKR earned just one point, limiting their maximum possible total to 14 points—insufficient to secure a place in the top four. The defending champions are set to conclude their campaign with a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, May 25.
