Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Kuldeep Yadav has returned to India with a serious knee injury midway through to the second phase of IPL 2021. The left-arm wrist-spinner is likely to miss the most part of the domestic season as well.

Incidentally, Kuldeep Yadav travelled with the squad to the UAE and began training. However, he copped with a serious blow during one of the training sessions which ruled him out for at least a couple of months.

ā€œYes, we got the information that Kuldeep sustained a nasty knee injury during a practice session in UAE. Apparently while fielding, he twisted his knee and it was really bad at that point.

ā€œThere was no chance that he could have taken any further part and was sent back to India,ā€ a senior BCCI official tracking developments of IPL teams told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Kuldeep Yadav is expected to go through a long rehabilitation process before attempting a comeback to competitive cricket. As per reports, Kuldeep has undergone surgery in Mumbai and it could take between four to six months before he can make a comeback.

ā€œKnee injuries are generally bad. Itā€™s a very long process from starting to work and then getting strength back through intense physiotherapy sessions at the NCA, followed by light intensity training and finally starting with net sessions.

ā€œIt canā€™t be said with certainty that Kuldeep will be match ready by the time Ranji Trophy ends,ā€ another IPL source privy to the developments said to PTI.Ā

The 26-year-old Kuldeep Yadav has played 7 Tests, 65 ODIs and 23 T20Is for a total of 174 wickets across formats. He was last seen in action during the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
