Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) veteran spinner Sunil Narine expressed his appreciation for franchise co-owner Shah Rukh Khan’s unwavering support behind the scenes. The Caribbean star, one of KKR’s longest-serving players since joining in 2012, has experienced all the team’s highs and lows.
Both current and former KKR players have praised the Bollywood icon for his leadership, highlighting his deep involvement in the franchise and his ability to give players the freedom to express themselves.
Narine mentioned that everyone in the KKR camp held Shah Rukh Khan in high regard and noted that his demeanor remained unchanged regardless of the team’s on-field performances.
“The way he talks to everyone, he is very down to earth, and loves everyone in the team. I think he is one of the best owners you could ask for. He just gives you all freedom to play cricket. Whether you win, lose or draw, it is the same Shah Rukh Khan,” Narine said during a pre-season press conference.
Shah Rukh Khan is likely to attend the IPL 2025 season opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22.

After struggling with the bat for a few IPL seasons following a successful stint as an opener, Sunil Narine made a strong comeback in 2024. He built a great partnership with Phil Salt, helping KKR dominate the powerplay.
However, with both Salt and Shreyas Iyer no longer in the squad, KKR’s top order has undergone a major change. Narine will now partner with Quinton de Kock and newly appointed captain Ajinkya Rahane at the crease.
“Cricket has evolved so much, so you have to try to evolve your game as well. There are times where I have to contribute with bat and the ball, but I think it is about general confidence and being able to emulate and utilize whatever I can do on the field,” Narine said of opening the batting.
