KL Rahul, the middle-order batter for Team India, has reportedly resumed batting during the squad’s training session on Sunday, November 17. He had previously taken a blow to his elbow during match simulations last week.
Rahul is expected to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. The 32-year-old featured in the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A at Perth but had modest performances, scoring just 4 and 10.
Ahead of the Test series, Team India conducted intra-squad match simulations at the WACA, with players from both India A and the touring squad involved. While opening alongside Jaiswal, Rahul was struck on the elbow by a delivery from Prasidh Krishna.
The physios and team staff quickly took KL Rahul off the field after the blow to his elbow. Following their assessment, the injury was deemed not serious, and Rahul did not return to bat as a precaution.
In positive news for the team ahead of the first Test, Rahul reportedly resumed his batting drills during Sunday’s training session.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Rahul had an intense workout session with the other Team India players that lasted nearly three hours. Afterward, he had a net session lasting about an hour, although he didn’t appear as fluent as when he batted alongside Jaiswal on Day 1.
India’s likely playing XI for the 1st Test against Australia:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah (C).
