KL Rahul, a veteran of Team India, once shared how Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, who is also the wife of teammate Virat Kohli, supported him through the disappointment of his 2014 international debut. He expressed his gratitude for her efforts to be there for him during that time.
Rahul made his first appearance for India during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014/2015 period which was held at Melbourne. He scored low on 3 and 1 in two innings even though India managed to draw the game.
Six years ago, Rahul shared about this moment with Renil Abraham in a talk show, where he mentioned we had gone together through this hard time when I could not perform well in my first match for the country thanks to Anushka.
“Both of them (Anushka and Virat) have been very good to me and I have a great story to tell you. Anushka was there to watch the Melbourne match. She could see that I was down and dejected (with personal performance) while my thoughts were all over.”
”Anushka came to my room and told me she isn’t going to let me sit alone and think about cricket and added that she and Virat are going to take me out,” said Rahul.
Rahul also confessed to often being the third wheel on many of Kohli and Anushka’s dates.
“I third-wheeled on one of the dinner dates. Both Virat and Anushka shared their stories describing moments when they had endured failure in their careers.”
”That made me feel like that I wasn’t the only one who ruined his first impression. We had a week’s break before the next game and they took me out every time with them. They are a powerful couple and have had a great influence on me as a couple,” Rahul added.
In the subsequent game – the Fourth Test at Sydney – Rahul answered straight away with the bat itself by scoring an impressive 110 in the first innings. From there onwards, he became a notable player, who has represented India in 50 Tests and acquired 2863 runs.

On the identical chat show after his double failures on debut, KL Rahul expressed gratitude to Anushka Sharma for her stylish gesture. In December of 2017, Kohli and Anushka tied the knot. The pair has two kids named Vamika and Akaay. Rahul also talked about sometimes communicating through texts during an interview in 2018.
“It was nice of Anushka to do it as I didn’t know how she could understand what I was going through. We still stay in touch and exchange a few messages, although Anushka’s are about my dog mostly,” said Rahul.
Consequently, at present, Rahul is in the Indian A team against Indian B in the Duleep Trophy opener which commenced today (on September 5) in Bengaluru.
