Chennai Super Kings ruined Kings XI Punjab to bow them out of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). KL Rahul & Co could only manage to post 153 runs batting first which was a cakewalk for MS Dhoni-led Chennai, who were already out of the tournament.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got Kings XI Punjab off to a pleasant start before Chennai Super Kings pulled things back. From 48 for no loss to 68 for three, Punjab were in dire trouble. Punjab, who were playing a must-win game, lost wickets consistently to be at 113 for six before a late plunge from Deepak Hooda helped them post 153 runs on the board.
Kings XI Punjab were 15-20 runs short as Chennai went home safely with seven balls to spare. Ruturaj Gaikwad once again played a gem of a knock to take his side home. He set the platform with Faf du Plessis before taking his side over the rope with Ambati Rayudu and CSK completed a nine-wicket win.
We will come back stronger – KL Rahul
Speaking at the end of the game, KL Rahul admitted that they didn’t live up to the expectations with the bat. He felt that 180-190 was a good score and said that they couldn’t perform under pressure and in big situations.

“It is as simple as that. We didn’t bat really well. Big pressure game and we expected 180-190 on the board, unfortunately, we couldn’t soak in the pressure and get a big total. Disappointed but that’s how IPL goes,” KL Rahul said after another poor IPL season.
Adding further, KL Rahul stated the will learn from the mistakes and come back stronger. The talented batsman also admitted that the slow start, where they lost six games from the first seven matches, cam back hard to bite them back.
“Hopefully, come back stronger next year and forget this year. If you look back at it, we had a lot of games in our pocket but we couldn’t get over the line. We only have ourselves to blame. At the start of the tournament, that short-run has come back to bite us very hard. We all make mistakes and we have made a few this season. We need to accept it, learn from it and come back stronger,” KL Rahul added.
