“Kya The Aur Kya Hogye” – Fans Respond As Prithvi Shaw Remains Unsold At The IPL 2025 Auction

Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, November 25. The right-handed batsman had set his base price at INR 75 lakh. This outcome followed two disappointing seasons with Delhi Capitals, where Shaw struggled to perform.

In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he scored 106 and 198 runs in eight matches, with just one half-century. The Delhi-based franchise had previously acquired him for INR 7.5 crore. In total, Shaw has accumulated 1,892 runs in 79 IPL matches at a strike rate of 147.46, including 14 half-centuries.

Mumbai dropped Prithvi Shaw from the squad over fitness and disciplinary issues in the Ranji Trophy

Mumbai recently dropped Prithvi Shaw from their squad for fitness and disciplinary reasons in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, according to an official speaking to PTI (via ESPNcricinfo):

“You have to look at his fitness and his running when he is on the field. The MCA has a rich history and there cannot be exceptions for a certain player.”

Shaw, however, quickly returned to the Mumbai squad. Last year, he was involved in a pub brawl with an influencer but was later cleared of any wrongdoing by the Mumbai police. Former India head coach Greg Chappell has advised Shaw to focus on starting anew rather than dwelling on past setbacks. He stated (via ESPNcricinfo):

“The past doesn’t define you, Prithvi. It’s what you do from here that matters. You’re still in your prime, with so many years ahead to make your mark.”

“The door back to the Indian team is open if you’re willing to walk through it, but it takes a commitment to growth and change,” he added.

Prithvi Shaw was once compared to Sachin Tendulkar after his international debut but quickly faded from the spotlight. He played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I. Shaw is currently featuring for Mumbai in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

He could be brought in as a replacement if there’s an injury during IPL 2025. Only Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) currently have the budget to sign Shaw as a late addition for the upcoming season.
