Lanka Premier League 2023: Sri Lankan Young Spinner Wrecks Havoc With A Stunning Spell

Sri Lankan spin sensation Wanindu Hasaranga wreaked havoc for B Love Kandy in the eliminator against Jaffna Kings played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 17th August 2023. Recently retired from a longer format, Hasaranga proved his worth with a match-winning spell against the 3-time Champions of Lanka Premier League Jaffna Kings. B Love Kandy captain Hasranaga contributed a valuable 19 off 11 deliveries to help B Love Kandy post 188 for 8 in 20 overs.

The Sri Lankan spinner bought himself after the first six overs and got the result immediately with 2 quick wickets in the same with Dunith Wellage and Chris Lynn to put Jaffna Kings under immense pressure. The partnership between David Miller and Asela Gunaratne was threatening before B Love Kandy captain Hasranaga took the wickets of both Miller and Gunaratne to leave Jaffna Kings on the backfoot.

Hasaranga dismissed Maheesh Theekshana and Nuwan Thusara to bowl out Jaffna Kings for 127 in 17.2 overs. It was a remarkable performance by the leg spinner ending with remarkable figures of 6 for 9 in 20 deliveries to help B Love Kandy reach qualifier 2 against Galle Titans.

B Love Kandy performed brilliantly in the entire tournament with consistent performance. Pakistan’s young wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris laid a strong foundation scoring 79 off 49 deliveries with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Sri Lankan veteran Dinesh Chandimal made a quickfire 41 from 24 balls. For his match-winning effort, Wanindu Hasaranga was awarded the player of the match. B Love Kandy finished 3rd in the league with 4 wins and 4 losses from 8 matches.

Hasaranga’s performance in Lanka Premier League

Wanindu Hasaranga has led from the front for B Love Kandy this season with the ball. With his match-winning 6 for 9 against Jaffna Kings, the Sri Lankan spinner moved to the top of leading wicket-takers in the Lanka Premier League 2023.

Before this match against Jaffna Kings, Hasranaga had 11 wickets. He is currently at 17 wickets from 9 matches (9 innings) at an economy of 5.54 runs per over. During this tournament so far, he has picked a four-wicket haul once and a five-wicket haul once.

B Love Kandy fans would be hoping that Hasaranga can weave his magic in qualifier 2 against Galle Titans on 19th August 2023 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
