Women T20 Challenge is a women’s T20 cricket tournament conducted by the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI). Usually, three teams take part in this tournament. However several cricket fans have criticised BCCI for not having a full-fledged Women’s IPL just like the men.

Recently, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly revealed that they are planning to have a full-fledged Women’s IPL from the year 2023. According to the reports, the BCCI would be giving preference to the current IPL teams to form a women’s IPL franchise. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have already made their intentions clear to buy a WIPL team.

Now, Chennai Super Kings CEO has also expressed his desire to have a women’s IPL team. In an interview with Insidesport, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan revealed that he is looking to have a Chennai-based team if the BCCI starts the women’s IPL.

It would be a good step in the right direction if IPL team owners show their interest in women’s IPL too. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “As and when it starts, we are going to be interested. That is all. Let the BCCI decide first. As of now, there has been no communication about it.”

“2023 will be best time to start Women’s IPL” – Sourav Ganguly

Recently, Sourav Ganguly revealed that the BCCI is looking to start a full-fledged women’s leg of the IPL from 2023. He believes that it would be a big success just like the men’s IPL. It would help in the nurturing of the young talent which India has in women’s cricket. Also, Indian women cricketers would get to share dressing rooms with some of the top-quality cricketers around the globe.

“We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women’s IPL which will be as big and grand a success as the men’s IPL,” Ganguly had said earlier this year.
