A tragic event unfolded early Wednesday morning at the ground of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) officer, 30-year-old Ravindra Ahirwar, collapsed and died while playing cricket in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, Ravindra was bowling during a friendly match when he paused to drink water. Almost immediately after taking a sip, he “vomited and collapsed,” causing great alarm among his teammates and spectators. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Background & Personal Details
According to local accounts, Ravindra had been playing at a ground near his home in the Sidheswar area of Jhansi’s Seep-ri Bazaar police station limits. It had been a holiday—the day coinciding with Kartik Purnima and Guru Nanak Jayanti—so he and his friends took the opportunity to enjoy a game of cricket. He was reportedly in the third over of his spell when he took a break to hydrate.
His younger brother told the press that, “My brother had no old illness — three months ago he went for a full body check-up and everything was normal.” Despite the check-up and his enthusiasm for sport, the sudden collapse still occurred. Family members mention that he had secured his post as a development officer at LIC roughly two years ago and was fond of playing cricket regularly.
Questions Raised & Aftermath
While the exact cause of death awaits a post-mortem report, the sudden nature of the collapse—occurring mid-game and following a brief water break—has sparked shock in the community. Onlookers and friends were stunned: one account noted simply how he “paused for water, then collapsed.” The hospital staff confirmed that despite rapid transport, Ravindra could not be revived. The local police have sent the body for further medical examination and investigation.
His family, preparing for his impending marriage, are left grappling with loss and unanswered questions. Teammates, friends and colleagues have expressed sorrow at losing someone so active and seemingly healthy, underscoring that even fit-looking individuals may face unexpected health risks, especially during physical exertion.
