Team India’s preparations for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup were dealt with a major blow, as their lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah got ruled out of the tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has now named pacer Mohammed Shami as Bumrah’s replacement for the important event. The 2022 T20 World Cup gets underway on October 16 in Australia.
On Friday, the All-India Senior Selection Committee decided to name Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. The BCCI took to Twitter to announce the decision. Mohammed Shami left for Australia on Thursday to join the Indian team. He will be available for the warm-up matches in Brisbane. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly.

Mohammed Shami was named in India’s T20I squad against Australia earlier this year. However, he tested covid positive and was ruled out of the series. He also missed the following T20I series against South Africa. Recently, the pacer passed the fitness test and was declared eligible for selection.

From being told by the management that he's not being considered for selection in T20Is to being announced as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement without playing a single T20I.
Proper wild card entry for Mohammed Shami.

So, Shami gets into the WC without playing a single game between the last WC & this one. Living WC to WC 😅 #T20WorldCup https://t.co/rhCGkRFyXH

The balance has 'swung' in favour of Shami to replace Bumrah at the World Cup T20. Hope the Australian conditions favour him. All the best.

Why not Siraj who was playing constantly, did well of late and has game time . Shami is good bowler but he was not in your T20 side for the last one year and all of sudden he is replacement of Bumrah. The management 🙂🙂 https://t.co/AW67tfW9UA
