Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has hit back at England and Australia for interfering in Indian cricket and criticizing the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed that the powerhouses should look at their state of affairs before commenting on India’s. His response has come in the wake of the comments made by former Australian cricketer batter Adam Gilchrist.
The Indian Premier League franchises recently acquired all the six teams in Cricket South Africa’s T20 league. Adam Gilchrist had termed the expansion of the League as “a little bit dangerous”. He added that he was concerned by the increasing monopoly of IPL in one of his interviews. On the other hand, some ex-England players had also blamed the Indian Premier League for their team’s poor performance in the Ashes.
Sunil Gavaskar expressed that he is amused with the reactions of the players from Australia and England. He urged them to focus on the cricket interests of their countries and not interfere in India’s cricketing affairs. In a column for Sportstar, Sunil Gavaskar wrote,
“It’s been amusing to read that the Indian Premier League is once again seen as a disruptor of the cricketing calendar of other international teams. The moment the news about the South African T20 league and the UAE T20 league came out, the ‘old powers’ started squirming and got their apologists to have a go at the IPL. By all means, look after your cricket interests but hey, please don’t interfere in ours and tell us what to do.”

The Australians, too, have scheduled their Big Bash when their contracted players will be available to play: Sunil Gavaskar
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar further lashed out at Australia, highlighting that they have created a separate window to organize Big Bash League. The England and Australian boards are wary about losing the services of their players to the South African and UAE’S ILT20 league.
“The Australians, too, have scheduled their Big Bash when their contracted players will be available to play. But it’s worrying them that the UAE and the South African T20 leagues are scheduled around the same time, and there’s the danger of some of their players opting to play there instead of the Big Bash,” wrote Sunil Gavaskar.
