“Loving Every Second” – Shikhar Dhawan Expresses His Excitement About Returning To The Field For Legends League Cricket 2024

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from both international and domestic cricket last month. The left-handed batsman concluded a remarkable international career that lasted from 2010 to 2024.

The cricket field welcomes back Dhawan, who also happens to be a participant in the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 edition. The 38-year-old has taken up the mantle of captain for the Gujarat Greats team in this tournament. Expressing his thrill of being back in the cricketing arena, Dhawan penned the following in his most recent Instagram statement:

Shikhar Dhawan has played in 34 Test matches, 164 One Day Internationals, and 68 Twenty 20 Internationals for India. He concluded his career scoring 10,867 after all international games including the domestic ones. The left-handed batsman earned the title of ‘Mr ICC’ for his outstanding display during the tournaments.

He was the leading run-scorer in 2013’s ICC Champions trophy, helping India win the title again after eight years, scoring 363 runs in five matches. Last time Dhawan played an international match was in December 2022, where he appeared in an ODI against Bangladesh and was out for three runs.

Shikhar Dhawan and his team kicked off their LLC 2024 campaign with an 8-wicket victory over Toyam Hyderabad

Gujarat Greats led by Shikhar Dhawan faced Toyam Hyderabad in their first match of LLC 2024 on Sunday, September 22 at Barkatullah Khan Stadium, Jodhpur. Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bat first. The team made a total of 172 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs owing to the contribution of Suresh Raina and Peter Trego who scored 44 and 36* runs respectively.

Liam Plunkett, Manan Sharma and Seekkuge Prasanna took two wickets each. Chasing the score down took 19.2 overs as Gujarat won the game by 8 wickets. Morne van Wyk was in top form as he finished with an impressive 113 not out.

Dhawan, however, could not get going with the bat in the match scoring only 21 runs off 20 balls before being dismissed by Gurkeerat Singh. Dhawan will now be seen in action on Monday, September 23, during Gujarat’s match against Southern Super Stars at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium, Jodhpur.
