“Jayawardena, during his tenure, helped implement significant changes to the structure of the national team ecosystem and the High-Performance Center,” said a statement from the board.
“Sri Lanka Cricket takes this opportunity to wish Mahela all the best in his future endeavors and thank him for the services he rendered during his tenure,” they further added.

He is considered one of Sri Lanka’s most successful sportsmen of all time and worldwide, meaning he ventured into coaching this year aiming at joining his country’s national squad in terms of Cricket.
It is more than likely that the men’s national team under Jayawardene will suffer in the upcoming series after his resignation. Particularly, the blog post comments that the exact reasoning behind his stepping down is yet to be made public.
