Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar expressed his eagerness to meet ex-India captain MS Dhoni before IPL 2025 after being bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the auction last month. Chahar mentioned that he plans to meet Dhoni in person, as the latter doesn’t answer calls.
This claim about Dhoni’s unavailability over the phone is not a new one. Chahar also shared his appreciation for his time with the Super Kings, despite the franchise not acquiring him at the auction. He recently spoke to SportStar about his experience:
“Mahi bhai doesn’t talk much over the phone, but I’ll definitely meet him soon. I had a great time under him at CSK, and even though we’ll be on opposite sides now, I’ll catch up with him before the season begins.”
Deepak Chahar notably excelled as a powerplay bowler under MS Dhoni’s leadership in the IPL. He represented CSK from 2018 to 2024 and also played alongside Dhoni for a couple of seasons at the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. The 32-year-old is tied for the fifth-highest wickets in the powerplay, with 60 wickets to his name.
“Mahi Bhai Has Supported Me From The Beginning” – Deepak Chahar On His Stint With CSK
Deepak Chahar recently shared his appreciation for MS Dhoni and CSK. He told Sports Tak (as reported by Hindustan Times):
“Mahi bhai has supported me from the start, that’s why I wanted to come here. But my name came on the second day at the auction, so I had a fair idea that it would be difficult for me to get back to CSK. They had a low purse, but still bid till INR 9 crore despite a purse of INR 13 crore.”
“I had made up my mind that it would be difficult. Last year, my name came first, that’s why it was easier to get back to CSK,” he added.
CSK notably engaged in a bidding war with MI and Punjab Kings (PBKS) before the Mumbai-based franchise secured Deepak Chahar’s services, spending a massive INR 9.25 crore on the Agra-born medium pacer.
In a previous interview, Chahar’s father, Lokendra Singh, also revealed how MS Dhoni assisted Deepak in proposing to his wife, Jaya, during an IPL match.
