Major Blow For Australia As Cameron Green Ruled Out

Cameron Green

Cameron Green

Cameron Green has been officially ruled out of Australia’s upcoming five-Test series against India, which is set to begin next month. The talented all-rounder will undergo spinal surgery this week to address a persistent injury that has plagued him for some time. At just 25 years old, Green has had a history of stress fractures, and he experienced significant back pain during Australia’s one-day series in England in September, prompting his early return home.

Details of the Injury

Cricket Australia has confirmed that while stress fractures in the spine are common among fast bowlers, Green possesses a unique defect in a nearby area that is believed to exacerbate his condition.

After thorough consultations with medical professionals, it was decided that surgery is necessary to stabilize this defect, aiming to reduce the likelihood of future injuries. Cricket Australia anticipates that Green’s recovery will take approximately six months, emphasizing that this decision prioritizes his long-term health and career as an all-rounder.

Impact on Upcoming Matches

Green’s absence will be felt significantly, as he serves as a crucial fifth bowling option for Australia, supporting key players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon. The series against India kicks off in Perth on November 22, followed by matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Additionally, Green will miss the Test tour of Sri Lanka scheduled for February and the ICC Champions Trophy tournament later that year. In his 28-Test career, Green has made notable contributions, claiming 35 wickets and amassing 1,377 runs, highlighted by an impressive 174 not out in the first Test against New Zealand last March.

His all-round abilities have made him an integral part of the Australian cricket team, and his unavailability presents a considerable challenge for the squad as they prepare for a challenging series against India.
