Marnus Labuschagne Extends His Wish To Ply Trade In The IPL

Australia’s new age batsman Marnus Labuschagne has extended his wish to ply a trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. The middle-order batsman from Queensland who was once considered not got enough to play for the national side made his mark in the 2019 Ashes series against England when Steve Smith was ruled out due to a concussion.

Ever since the 2019 Ashes series, Marnus has gone on to average 60.80 in Test cricket eventually being Australia’s first choice number three ahead of Usman Khawaja. Similarly, after consistent performances in the longer format, Marnus Labuschagne was provided with an opportunity in the ODI format where again showcased his batting with 1 hundred and 3 fifties in 19 ODIs.

Now, after a successful stint in international cricket, Marnus Labuschagne wishes to ply a trade in the IPL which begins in a couple of months’ time. During a post-match interview in the BBL, the Queenslander put forward his views on playing in the upcoming edition of the IPL in India.

“I think so, I think so [will be registering for the IPL]. That will obviously be released really soonish anyway. You throw your name in the hat and see what happens. You know, like I’ve said that the IPL is a great competition. Personally, I would love to be part of it but, let’s see what happens,” Labuschagne told.

Marnus Labuschagne who has been interested in the IPL for a long time doesn’t want to rush into the scheme of things since he believes his time will come when he’s ready for the opportunity. Though Marnus has represented Australia in Tests and ODIs he’s yet to make his debut for the T20 side.

After the completion of the Border – Gavaskar Trophy, Marnus Labuschagne turned up for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL where he’s scored 176 runs while with his part time leg-spin, he has managed to pick up 10 wickets.

“I have been interested in the IPL for a long time, always following and how the teams are going. I really want to be involved in the IPL at some stage but I think the time will come when I’m ready for that opportunity. And I think you don’t need to always rush these things.

“You know the way my career has developed in the last year has been quite substantial. It’s gone real quick. Probably a year and a half ago, I wouldn’t even be in contention for the IPL but now I would love to be over there,” he had said.
