Martin Guptill replaces injured Lendl Simmons in Mumbai Indians

Guptill replaces injured Simmons in Mumbai Indians: Mumbai Indians have been dealt a huge setback as top-order Caribbean batsman, Lendl Simmons has been ruled out of this IPL season due to injury and will need about 8-10 weeks to recover. However, in turn it might be a good news for the Mumbai Indians’ fans, New Zealand swashbuckling opener Martin Guptill has been named as the replacement for the West Indian batsman.

The 31-year-old, Martin Guptill, who was the highest run-getter for his team in the 2015 ICC World Cup with 547 runs and had a decent World T20 as well, will travel to India as Mumbai Indians coach Ricky Ponting said in a mid-match interview conducted during Mumbai’s six-wicket win over KKR at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

The New Zealand opener was up for the pick in this IPL auction, but went unsold. His base price was set at Rs. 50 lakhs, which seemed to be a bargain, but none of the franchises were interested in having him, the decision which was criticized by many analysts.

Rohit Sharma along with Martin Guptill at the top of the order will be something thrilling to watch out for and the fans of Mumbai Indians will be quite excited.
