Matthew Wade has criticised the decision of the third umpire who gave Tim Paine out caught behind on day 3. The Australian captain looked confident after team India took a Decision Review System (DRS). Paine wasn’t able to execute a cut shot against Ravindra Jadeja as the ball nestled into the gloves of wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. 

Once Pant caught the ball the Indian team appealed for a caught behind against Tim Paine. The on-field umpire gave it not out but India was confident that the ball made contact with Paine’s bat and skipper Ainkya Rahane took the DRS. The replays first suggested that Paine might have missed the ball. However, the Real-Time Snickometer (RTS) indicated a small spike when the ball was close to the bat. 

Matthew Wade Lashes Out At Double Standard Umpiring

After seeing a spike on the RTS, the third umpire reversed the decision and controversially gave Paine out about which he was extremely frustrated. Wade who so far is the top scorer for Australia in the second innings isn’t satisfied with the particular umpiring decision. 

Wade recalled the DRS against Pujara when RTS showed a similar spike but the Indian batsman was adjudged not out by the third umpire. He added that consistency is all you want as a player which the umpiring standard in the second Test hasn’t been able to do.

As quoted by Sportskeeda, Matthew Wade said, “From what I’ve seen it looked pretty similar to the first ball of yesterday, the one we actually referred, I think it was off Pujara. So from all reports and what I’ve seen, Snicko showed a very similar thing, one was given out and one was not out. That’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes, but that’s what it looked like from where we’ve been sitting and watching”. 

“I heard a noise on the Pujara one, I was at first slip at the time, and his bat was the only thing out there, and then we saw what you guys saw on the ground, which was a small spike. Either way, if it was out or not out, consistency is all you want as a player”, Wade added.

Meanwhile, the Paine dismissal was a body blow for Australia as the hosts were 6 down when they were still trailing by 27 runs. On day 3, Matthew Wade was the best Aussie batsman as he batted well again both pace and spinners. Team India will be hoping that they pick the remaining 4 wickets of Australia as early as possible tomorrow and win the MCG Test.
