Mayank Agarwal And Shashwat Rawat Guide India A To Victory In The 2024 Duleep Trophy

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, India A won the Duleep trophy for the first time ever, thanks to the Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. The three-week tournament ended with India ‘A’ scoring the most points and winning the title.

During the final week of the tournament, India ‘A’, India ‘B’ and India ‘C’ were in contention for the championship. India ‘D’ was out of contention after losing two matches in a row. While to win the title India ‘C’ only required a draw, both India ‘A’ and India ‘B’ needed to win outright.

In the matches for third place in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2018, India “A” faced India “C” and India “B” played against India “D”. The second match was completed first as “D” bowled all over “B” winning by 257 runs chasing 372 runs.

For the final of the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2018, there were two contenders: India “A” and India “C”. At first inning, they scored 297 runs with Shashwat Rawat (124 from 150 balls) and Avesh Khan (51 from 68 balls) shining bright. As for India C’s batting order, they could only reach a total of 234 which ended with Abhishek Porel as their top scorer (82 from 113 balls).

India A enhanced their lead by 63 runs to finish with a score of 286 for 8 declared, thanks to Riyan Parag who made 73 runs off 101 balls while Shashwat Rawat accounted for the other main contribution scoring 53 off 67. In their attempt to chase a target of 350 runs for the title, only Sai Sudharshan (111 runs from 206 deliveries) put up a large score as India C succumbed to an all-out loss of 217.

The Duleep Trophy 2024 was awarded based on points accrued by teams and since India A had two outright wins and registered 12 points, they emerged victorious this year. Second position was occupied by India C with nine points followed by India B in third place with seven points while last place went to India D who managed only one outright win and had six points.

The tournament had a dismal beginning for India ‘A’ as they were defeated by India ‘B’ in the opening match by 76 runs. Mayank Agarwal took over the job of captaincy for India ‘A’ from the second game onwards since Shubman Gill was summoned to join Team India’s squad for the initial Test against Bangladesh.

In their subsequent encounter, India ‘A’ defeated India ‘D’ with a margin of 186 runs and then went ahead to thump India ‘C’ to end up with total points of 12. Excluding players from Mumbai, the player pool will be put into considerations for Irani Cup where Rest of India will face Mumbai at BRSABV Ekana Stadium, Lucknow from October 1st to 5th.
