The 2011 ODI World Cup will forever be a memorable chapter in the history of Indian cricket. India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to lift their second ODI World Cup title after a 28-years hiatus. The historic event completed 12 years on Sunday, April 2, 2023. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that it will make a memorial to mark Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s World Cup winning six at the Wankhede Stadium.

The association will honor the former Indian skipper. The Memorial will be at the spot behind Long-on where Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s six to Nuwan Kulasekara landed to seal Team India’s victory. Amol Kale, the MCA President announcing the memorial, said,

“Today MCA Apex Council has decided to make a small victory memorial in Wankhede Stadium stands to commemorate the 2011 world cup victory. The memorial will be built at the location where MS Dhoni’s historic winning six had landed in the stands.”

Mumbai Cricket Association to felicitate MS Dhoni during the inauguration ceremony

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will also be felicitating Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the inauguration ceremony. MCA President Amol Kale said that the association is hopeful that the ceremony will take place on April 8. However, a final decision will be taken in consultation with the former Indian skipper.

“MCA is hopeful that it will be inaugurated by MS Dhoni when he will be in Mumbai for CSK’s match with MI on 8th April. The date is yet to be finalized as it will completely depend on MS Dhoni’s consent and availability. MCA will also felicitate MS Dhoni when he inaugurates the World Cup Victory Memorial in Wankhede Stadium.”

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be at the Wankhede Stadium on April 8 for the 2023 Indian Premier League match. The Chennai Super Kings will take on their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the match.
