Mitchell appointed as bowling coach of MI Emirates Squad

Mumbai Indian Emirates has appointed New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan as the bowling coach of the side ahead of the second edition of the International League T20 tournament.

Shane Bond was the coach of the Mumbai Indians side during the first season last year. McClenaghan will now be the coach of the franchise as Bond joined the Paarl Royals squad in the SA T20 league. He was appointed by the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.

McClenaghan will be doing his coaching stint for the first time after he appeared for New Zealand in international cricket in 2018 and his last competitive appearance in 2021. He was part of the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL. Mitchell was known for his attacking bowling and could hit big shots. From 2015-2020, Mumbai Indians won four titles leaving a great legacy for Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbai Emirates franchise has seen an overhaul in the squad for the second edition of the tournament. Robin Singh who was the manager of the team during the inaugural edition last year has been appointed as the head coach of the team.

Ajay Jadeja who was appointed as the mentor for the Afghanistan team during the 2023 World Cup, will serve as the batting coach for the Mumbai Emirates side. Vinay Kumar and James Franklin would continue from their respective posts as assistant and fielding coach from last season.

Nicolas Pooran appointed as the captain of the Mumbai Emirates Squad

The dashing left-handed West Indies player Nicolas Pooran has been appointed as the captain of the Mumbai Indians Emirates squad replacing Kieron Pollard. Pooran played a key role in helping MI New York to win the first edition of Major League Cricket in America last year.

MI Emirates will open their tournament against Delhi Capitals to be played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 20th January 2024.

Mumbai Indians Emirates qualified for the playoff stage as they finished 3rd in the points table during the 2023 edition. They won the eliminator getting better of Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets to make it into the qualifier 2.

They could not qualify for the finals as they lost to Gulf Giants. It was impressive by the Mumbai Indians Emirates side. Under the captaincy of Pooran, Mumbai Indians Emirates would look to win the title.
