Mumbai Indians scripted history winning the illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the fifth time beating Delhi Capitals by five wickets. Rohit Sharma led once again was at the forefront of the side and led them brilliantly. In the wake of this, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has backed Rohit to be India’s T20 captain giving some break to Virat Kohli.
Batting first, Trent Boult got Mumbai Indians off to another fiery start with a wicket off the first ball negating the Marcus Stoinis threat. Delhi Capitals were in danger of being blown away on the big stage reeling at 22 for three in their first IPL final ever.
While Mumbai Indians unleashed all their cards, Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer held the fort high alongside Rishabh Pant, who was due for a big knock. They led the recovery steadily before threatening to explode towards the end. But Mumbai Indians pulled off giving away just 20 runs off the final three overs and restricting Delhi Capitals to 156 runs.
Rohit Sharma should be India’s captain – Michael Vaughan
In pursuit, Rohit Sharma & Co looked in complete control of the run chase. Rohit played a captain’s knock while Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav gave brisk starts. Ishan Kishan played another gem of a knock unbeaten on 33 off 19 to take Mumbai Indians home as Shreyas Iyer looked completely out of options against a heavy batting line-up.

As Mumbai Indians completed a landmark, Michael Vaughan backed Rohit Sharma to take up the leadership duties in the shortest format of Team India. Meanwhile, this is not the first time, Rohit’s name has come up in the fray. He has earlier led the Men in Blues in the absence of Virat Kohli.
Vaughan further added that this will provide some respite to Virat Kohli and concentrate on his game more. Previously, Vaughan had rated Mumbai Indians as the best T20 team in the world.
“Without question Rohit Sharma should be the Indian T20 captain .. fantastic man manager & leader .. & he knows exactly how to win T20 games .. it would also give Virat chance to take a breather and just be the player .. it’s works for all other teams around the world,” Michael Vaughan tweeted.
