Kiwi pacer Mitchell McClenaghan who was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise from 2015-2020 has been released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2021. The franchise announced the retained players on the day when the IPL retention were held. The five-time IPL champions have released seven players ahead of IPL 2021 auction and the left-arm pacer was one of them. The biggest name of the lot has to Lasith Malinga, who wasn’t a part of the 2020 season as he backed out due to personal reasons pertaining to ailing father.

The rententions include the likely faces of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. With Mumbai releasing as many as 5 overseas players, there is a hint that the Mumbai franchise will be going hard at the overseas players in the 2021 IPL auction.
