Mitchell Starc to undergo ankle surgery; likely to miss World T20

Mitchell Starc to undergo ankle surgery: Australia’s leading pacer Mitchell Starc have decided to undergo ankle surgery this month and is unlikely to be part of the Australian Team for the World T20 in March next year to be played in India.

The southpaw have suffered from foot fracture in his right ankle during the epic day-night Test match in Adelaide against New Zealand a fortnight ago. Therefore the decision to have an operation has been taken to resolve the problem which will keep him away from cricket for a long time.

Mitchell Starc bowled the fastest delivery ever recorded in the history of Test cricket; clocked 160.4 Kmph

Team Physiotherapist said in a news release: “Mitchell met with specialists late last week to get an opinion on his recent foot injury and ongoing right ankle impingement. After discussions with specialists, and in consultation with Mitchell, we believe the best course of action would be for Mitchell to have the surgery for his ankle impingement now while he is currently laid off with the stress fracture in his foot.”

This news have given cricket Australia the greatest setback as their bowling spearhead won’t be available for the World T20 next year. He was ruled out of the current home series against the West Indies due to the injury and it”s been decided to use the injury lay-off to finally repair his troublesome ankle.

The 25-year-old pacer has been phenomenal for Australia in all forms of the game. He bowled the fastest delivery ever recorded in the history of Test cricket; clocked 160.4 Kmph (99.7 mph) in the second Test in Perth in the recently concluded 3-match series against New Zealand. Australia won the series 2-0 after a controversial third Test. Mitchell Starc has been the biggest bowling threats in world cricket.

A date for surgery is yet to be confirmed. It would be no less than a miracle if the pacer can make it to the sixth World Twenty20 that takes place in India from March 11 to April 3. Australia have never won the trophy, their best finish being in 2010 when they were beaten by England in the final.
