Virat Kohli has tasted a lot of success at the helm of the Indian cricket team. However, his team selection at times has copped severe criticisms and not sticking to a particular team. Recently, former India batsman Mohammad Kaif slammed captain Kohli for not backing players.

The cricketer from Delhi has changed his playing XI even after winning games. Recently, Kaif during a chat stated that Virat Kohli is making too many changes in the playing XI. Drawing examples from the last ICC World Cup in England, Mohammad Kaif said trying too many combinations is affecting the balance of the team. He admitted that the Kohli should back his players, only then he can make a successful team.

“Kohli is doing a lot of experiments with team selection. He should not have done that. Kohli tried many combinations and even selected players who don’t have so much exposure during the last World Cup. Kohli should focus and back his team selection.

If any player lost his form for some matches, still he should support him. Kohli should make the players. Then only he can create a good team,” Kaif said during a live session on Helo App.

Meanwhile, speaking about KL Rahul’s rise as the wicket-keeper in the limited-overs, Mohammad Kaif opined that he can be a good back-up option. However, he is too far for being a permanent solution to the wicket-keeper batsman. Kaif said that Virat Kohli should back Rishabh Pant if they want to see him as the successor of MS Dhoni.

“Even for the wicketkeeping role, they are shuffling many players. India needs a permanent specialist wicketkeeper. KL Rahul can be a backup wicketkeeper but I don’t think he should be the main. If you want to support Rishabh Pant over Dhoni, then Kohli should back him. He should not be the water boy of the team,” Kaif added.
