Mohammed Shami Addresses Injury Speculations

Mohammed Shami has come forward to dispel rumors regarding his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Following a standout performance at the ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian pacer underwent surgery to address an ankle injury that had sidelined him.

On Wednesday, Shami took to X to clarify his status, asserting that he is not out of contention for the Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia, which is set for November. Reports had suggested that Shami’s return to the national squad was uncertain due to complications arising from his recovery.

Recovery Process and Medical Assessments

The Times of India cited a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source who mentioned that while Shami had resumed bowling and was progressing well, a recent flare-up of his knee injury had raised concerns.

The BCCI’s medical team has been closely monitoring his condition, emphasizing that they have implemented a robust workload management system to ensure his fitness. The source described the situation as a setback for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) team, which has been diligently working on Shami’s rehabilitation for over a year. They are committed to facilitating his return to competitive cricket as soon as possible.

Shami Urges Fans to Ignore Misinformation

In response to the swirling rumors, Shami expressed his frustration over the spread of unfounded claims. He emphasized the importance of focusing on verified information, stating, “Why these types of baseless rumors? I’m working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have stated that I am out of the Border-Gavaskar series.” He urged the public to disregard unofficial news sources and refrain from spreading what he termed as “fake news.”

Earlier in September, Shami conveyed his determination to return to the field promptly, acknowledging the time he has spent away from the game.

He affirmed, “The stronger I return, the better it is for me. I won’t rush back and risk further injury, whether against Bangladesh, New Zealand, or in the Australia series.” He has already resumed bowling but emphasized the need to wait until he is fully fit before making his comeback.
