Mohsin Naqvi Locks Asia Cup Trophy In Dubai, Bars Handing It To India Without His Nod: Report

Mohsin Naqvi Silent on Pakistan’s Tri-Series Proposal with India

Mohsin Naqvi Silent on Pakistan’s Tri-Series Proposal with India

A surprising controversy has erupted after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reportedly ordered that the Asia Cup trophy be locked inside the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai. According to reports, Naqvi issued strict instructions that the trophy should “not be moved or handed to India in his absence.”

The directive has caused confusion and sparked questions about why the trophy has not yet been delivered to the rightful winners — Team India, who defeated Pakistan in the tournament’s final.

Sources claim that Naqvi personally took the trophy away from the presentation area following India’s victory. Allegedly, the Indian players declined to receive the trophy directly from him, leading to an awkward situation on stage. As a result, Naqvi decided to secure the trophy in the Dubai office, asserting that he would personally oversee its transfer at a later date.

Naqvi’s Firm Stand Raises Eyebrows

Naqvi’s stance has drawn widespread attention, with many observers calling it both unusual and unnecessary. As one insider revealed, “The trophy has been locked in the ACC office as per Mohsin Naqvi’s order, and no one is allowed to move it without his instruction.” This decision has reportedly irritated officials within the Asian Cricket Council, who are now in a difficult position trying to mediate the situation.

The issue has added a fresh layer of tension between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Naqvi, known for his assertive approach, is said to have made the move as a matter of “protocol and respect,” arguing that as the PCB chairman, he should be the one to hand over the trophy.

BCCI Mulls Formal Action

The BCCI is reportedly considering raising the matter at the upcoming ICC board meeting. Senior Indian officials believe that Naqvi’s actions could set a “bad precedent” for international cricket events. A BCCI source noted, “The trophy rightfully belongs to India, and withholding it is not in the spirit of the game.”

While the ACC has yet to issue an official statement, the controversy has already caused embarrassment for both boards. Cricket fans and analysts have criticized the development, calling it an “avoidable diplomatic blunder” that reflects the strained cricketing ties between India and Pakistan once again.
