The world’s biggest stadium Motera cricket ground as been renamed Narendra Modi Stadium. Ahead of the match between India and England, the renovated stadium was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind. The breath-taking Narendra Modi Stadium now holds a capacity of 1.32 lakh spectators and is touted as the biggest stadium in the world.
The President inaugurated the stadium in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju between a host of other dignitaries. The stadium from today will host the pink ball Test match between India and England.
Motera Cricket Ground Renamed After PM As Narendra Modi Stadium
The stadium was earlier known as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which now has been renamed after the current Prime Minister Of India as the Narendra Modi Stadium. The world-class cricket stadium is built within the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad.
“Coupled with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, a sports complex will also be built-in Naranpura. These three will be equipped to host any international sports event”, Home Minister Amit Shah said at the event.
“Ahmedabad will be known as the ‘sports city’ of India. Olympic Games can also be held here”, he added.
“Not just for cricket but it’s a proud moment for India. Besides being the largest cricket stadium, it’s also one of the most modern stadiums in the world”, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said.
“As children, we used to dream about the world’s largest stadium in India. And now as sports minister, my happiness knows no bounds that this has finally happened,” he had said.

Meanwhile, the stadium hosted the knockout matches of the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. It will now host the remaining 2 Test matches between India and England and also 5 T20Is of the two sides in March.
Furthermore, England after winning the first toss at Narendra Modi Stadium have opted to bat first. India has made two changes in their squad and has brought back Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar for the pink-ball Test.
