The legendary captain, who led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, has continued to represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL despite retiring from international cricket in 2020.
Ahead of IPL 2024, the 43-year-old stepped down as CSK’s captain, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over the leadership role. However, Dhoni remains a crucial part of the franchise’s setup.
CSK retained him for ₹4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction under the ‘uncapped player’ category. Having guided the team to five IPL titles, Dhoni has cemented CSK’s status as one of the league’s most successful franchises.
MS Dhoni likely to use lighter bats in IPL 2025?
MS Dhoni, renowned for his powerful hitting in the lower order, has traditionally used heavy bats to launch towering sixes. However, according to a report by ‘The New Indian Express’, he is likely to switch to lighter bats for the IPL 2025 season.
The report mentions that Dhoni previously used bats weighing between 1250 to 1300 grams. However, for the upcoming IPL, he is expected to opt for slightly lighter bats.
“Each bat weighs around 1230 grams with the same shape as before,” a source was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
CSK will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Last season, they missed out on a playoff spot, ending in fifth place on the points table.
