Former Australia batter and current CSK batting coach Michael Hussey believes MS Dhoni’s seniority, engagement, and expertise will help current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad progress during the IPL season. Ruturaj takes over as captain of CSK from Dhoni ahead of this season.
On May 12, CSK defeated an impressive RR team by 5 wickets to secure a decisive victory that gave them a significant advantage in the playoff race. On the strength of some outstanding bowling from Simarjeet Singh (3/26), and solid batting from Ruturaj (unbeaten 42 off 41 balls), CSK secured the vital win.
The victory increased appreciation for Ruturaj’s leadership of CSK and moved the reigning champions to third place in the standings with 14 points from 13 games.
In addition to making an impact with his bowling attack decisions, Ruturaj was crucial at the bat throughout their 142-run chase.
“I think Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fantastic as captain”- Michael Hussey
Michael Hussey, a former Australia batter and current CSK batting coach, feels that Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s growth as the team’s new captain has been greatly aided by the presence and involvement of the seasoned MS Dhoni. Speaking at the press conference following the game, Hussey discussed how he believes Dhoni and Felming’s presence in CSK has helped Ruturaj become a much more mature character.
“I think Ruturaj has been fantastic as captain. He has a very calm demeanor about how he wants to go about it as well. Fortunately, he has great minds with him in the initial stages of his career. MS Dhoni is still there, helping him behind the scenes. Fleming is also there. He has a great mind to bounce ideas off. Ruturaj can only get better and better,” Hussey said.
