Chennai Super Kings are off to a flying start in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The side produced an all-round effort as they overcome the Mumbai Indian hurdle on the opening day. Ahead of their second tie, Deepak Chahar has conceded that MS Dhoni prefers players who are all-round cricketers.

Meanwhile, Chahar has seen Dhoni from close quarters ever since he made his IPL debut in 2016 for Pune Supergiants. It was only since 2018 that the 27-year old started coming in the limelight, performing well as a new-ball bowler.

Dhoni prefers all-round cricketers – Chahar

In 2018, Chahar took ten wickets for CSK and snapped 22 the year after that. In the opening match of this year’s IPL against Mumbai Indians, he picked up two wickets in four overs in IPL 2020 opener. Speaking of MS Dhoni, Deepak Chahar stressed that the former is very fond of all-round cricketers.

“I think Dhoni prefers those who are good in all departments. He likes those who can contribute in batting, bowling and fielding. A bowler can have a bad day but he can change a match by grabbing a good catch or can win the batch with a six or a four,” Chahar told Aakash Chopra in the show Aakash Vaani.

Furthermore, Deepak Chahar opined that T20 cricket is one format where you need cricketers who can contribute to all departments. The all-rounder from Rajasthan also took a leaf from his side to state that they have quality all-rounders which is one of the prime reasons behind their consistent success.

If you look at our team, we have many players who are good in every department. T20 is a format that requires you to do everything. There are a lot of teams in the IPL which have a strong batting line-up or a strong bowling attack but they remain dependent on a few cricketers. If they do well, they end up winning you matches single-handedly but if they don’t, the team struggles,” he added.

Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on September 22 (Tuesday) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
