This season the Chennai Super Kings haven’t looked at their best and so hasnt their captain MS Dhoni which is why Kumar Sangakkara feels like MS Dhoni should play some competitive cricket before playing the 2021 season of the IPL. As the points table stands as of today, Chennai Super Kings are the only side who do not possess a chance of qualifying to the playoffs whereas all other 6 teams are still in contention to qualify for the playoffs some way or the other.
After last night’s victory of Chennai Super Kings over Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians became the first team to qualify for the playoffs as they now stand on 16 points with two matches still remaining. Talking about Mumbai Indians’ arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings performance this season, they haven’t been at the absolute best.
They started off the season by a win over Mumbai Indians but it was followed by a series of losses but now finally at the stag end of the tournament Chennai Super Kings have finally started to peak but it’s too late for them to turn things in their favour.

MS Dhoni Should Play Competitive Cricket Before 2021 IPL: Kumar Sangakkara
Last night while talking to Star Sports in the post-match show Sangakkara mentioned how it is important for MS Dhoni to play some competitive cricket before returning back to the 2021 season as it will help him perform better. He further opined that a player playing in the IPL cannot have long gaps between playing competitive cricket which is why MS Dhoni should get a hand of regional or first-class cricket to be prepared for next season.
Talking to Star Sports, Kumar Sangakkara said, “He will, of course, be disappointed with his personal form but with only 2 games to go, I don’t think there is any point in trying to salvage that. It’s about winning games. He can address it after he goes and comes back next year.

“But what he has to do is to play some more super-competitive cricket in between. You can’t have long gaps between your IPL seasons, not playing international cricket, or not playing regional or first-class cricket. He has got to be super competitive and play competitive cricket to be in form,” he added.
Meanwhile, it still remains unclear whether MS Dhoni will return for the next edition of the IPL. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that they are confident that Dhoni will lead them in IPL 2021.
