Mumbai Cricket Association Boosts Pay for Men’s Team: Doubling Earnings for 2024-25 Season

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has unveiled a significant pay raise for its senior men’s team, effective from the upcoming 2024-25 season. This decision was reached during a recent apex council meeting of the MCA, signalling a proactive approach to incentivize and reward players for their contributions on the field. Under this groundbreaking initiative, players’ season-long earnings will witness a notable increase, effectively doubling their current pay structure.

The decision aims to align the players’ compensation with the standards set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), ensuring parity and fairness across the cricketing landscape. The revised pay structure for senior men’s players is structured according to their experience levels in first-class cricket. Players with over 40 first-class games will now receive INR 60,000 per day, a substantial raise from their previous earnings.

Similarly, those with a track record of 21-40 fixtures will see their daily earnings boosted to INR 50,000, reflecting the MCA’s commitment to rewarding experience and performance. Even players with less than 20 caps will benefit from this initiative, earning INR 40,000 per day, a significant enhancement compared to their previous compensation. Amol Kale, the President of MCA, underscored the importance of recognizing and rewarding players.

It was particularly about those actively involved in Ranji Trophy cricket. He emphasized the special place that red-ball cricket holds in the hearts of Mumbai’s cricketing community, highlighting the MCA’s dedication to supporting and nurturing talent at all levels. In addition to the MCA’s initiative, the broader landscape of Indian cricket has witnessed recent efforts to bolster support for players, particularly those committed to Test cricket.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah introduced the “Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,” aimed at providing financial incentives to players who prioritize representing India in the longest format of the game. This scheme, announced following India’s successful series against England, adds an extra layer of financial reward for players participating in Test matches. Starting from the 2022-23 season, players will receive an additional INR 15 lakhs on top of their match fee.

It demonstrated the BCCI’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in Test cricket. These developments mark a significant milestone in the evolution of Indian cricket, emphasizing the importance of supporting players at all levels and formats of the game. By aligning compensation structures with performance and experience, both the MCA and the BCCI are paving the way for a brighter and more rewarding future for Indian cricketers.
