“My Dream Has Been Fulfilled Now”: Avesh Khan After Getting India Call-Up For NZ Series

Avesh Khan has been included in the 16-member India squad that has been announced by BCCI for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. He will join the likes of Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj to lead the Indian pace attack. He received the call-up after MP’s Syed Mushtaq Ali match against Kerala. 

Speaking to PTI Avesh Khan said that his dream of playing for India has finally come true after getting included in the national squad. He has been in good bowling form in recent times. Khan picked up 16 wickets in the IPL 2021. 

“Every cricketer has a dream that he plays for his country and he works hard to turn this dream into a reality. My dream has been fulfilled now,” Avesh, who has 100 first-class wickets from 27 matches, told PTI Bhasha.

Avesh Khan thanked former cricketers Amay Khurasiya, Chandrakant Pandit, Devendra Bundela and Abbas Ali for their support in his rise as a cricketer.

Khan’s father Ashiq Khan remembered the initials days of Avesh’s journey as a cricketer. 

“My son first got associated with Indore Colts Cricket Club. Then Amay Khurasiya spotted his talent and took him to his own academy. After that he did not look back,” his father remembered.

Rohit Sharma will lead a 16-man squad that has been announced for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. India will host New Zealand for three T20Is and two Tests, starting on November 17. The series will kick off with the three T20Is to be played in Jaipur (November 17), Ranchi (November 19) and Kolkata (November 21). Virat Kohli has been rested for the series and from the first Test. 

The series will also be Rahul Dravid’s first assignment as Team India Coach and the start of the Rahul-Rohit Era. Ravi Shastri spoke about Dravid inheriting a brilliant team going forward and one which can attain even more success going forward. 

Apart from Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya have been rested from the series. R Ashwin has been retained and Yuzvendra Chahal has made a comeback to the side. Venkatesh Iyer has been included for the series and so is Mohammed Siraj. Avesh Khan and Harshan Patel have earned call-ups for the series with Bhuvneshwar Kumar retaining his place in the side as well.
