Joe Root registered three-figure scores in his 98th, 99th and 100th Test match for England has scored over 500 runs in just three Test matches. He went past 150 runs on day 2 of the first Test against India as England are aiming a mammoth first innings score. The Indian bowlers so far have not found any answers to Root’s class mixed with dominance. Meanwhile, Indian bowlers after having a tough first day are having a tough time in the initial hours of the second day as well.

Meanwhile, former England skipper Nasser Hussain has spoken about Root’s position in the Fab 4 group involving Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson. All four of them are among the modern greats in Test cricket and the England skipper has just taken his game a notch higher in the new year.

Joe Root Proved He’s a True Great: Nasser Hussain

“It’s fitting that Joe Root proved he’s a true great by scoring a hundred in his 100th Test,” Hussain wrote in his column for ‘Sky Sports’.

“Some people were starting to doubt if he belongs to that group of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith when he went through a lean patch last year – but don’t forget he was still averaging 40 in that period!” Hussain added.

Hussain further spoke about how Root prepared himself for the battle against Sri Lanka first and now India.

“He watched videos of various people and looked at his game and three hundreds in a row suggests he’s analysed his game pretty well!” Hussain said.

After the first day’s play Joe Root said that they are targeting somewhere around 600 to 700 runs after the position they were in after the first day’s play.

“I think we’ve got to look to try and get as many as we can – 600, 700 if we can, really try and make the most of the first innings while it’s good. Those footholes are starting to wear quite quickly. So if we can bat the whole of tomorrow and maybe into day three then things could speed up quite quickly for us” said Root after the first day’s play.
