Nathan Ellis picks up hattrick in BBL 12

Punjab Kings bowler Nathan Ellis picked up a hat trick for Hobart Hurricanes against Sydney Thunder in the 42nd match of BBL 12 played at Blundstone Arena, Hobart on 15 January 2023.

Sydney Thunder captain Chris Green won the toss and decided to bat first. Riley Meredith produced a superb yorker to dismiss David Warner. Nathan Ellis grabbed the wicket of Matthew Gilkes to leave Thunder in big trouble. At the end of the first 4 overs, Sydney Thunder made just 19 runs for a loss of 2 wickets.

Ellis grabbed the wicket of Matthew Gilkes in the fourth over before dismissing Oliver Davies and Nathan McAndrew in the 15th over to pick up a hattrick. It was a remarkable effort by Ellis who ended with figures of 4 for 27. A superb bowling effort by Hobart Hurricanes skittled out Sydney Thunder for 135 in 20 overs.

It was a horrible start for the Hobart Hurricanes team as they lost 3 quick wickets of Ben McDermott, Caleb Jewell, and Zak Crawley in the first three overs. Matthew Wade and Tim David hammered the Thunder bowling putting them under immense pressure. Hobart Hurricanes won the match by 5 wickets with 23 balls to spare. Tim David scored an unbeaten 76 off 41 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes that led Hurricanes comfortable win.

Nathan Ellis takes the hattrick:

Nathan Ellis was named the player of the match award for his 4 for 27. Ellis has been bought by the Punjab Kings franchise for Rs 75 Lakhs and would be hoping to perform well in the upcoming IPL season. Ellis featured for the Punjab Kings franchise in the 2022 edition of IPL. He played only 2 matches in that tournament picking up 3 wickets at an economy of 9.17 runs per over. PBKS bought him during the 2021 season and took just 1 wicket from 3 matches at an economy of 8.16 runs per over.

Ellis picked up 2nd hat trick in BBL season 12. The first hattrick was taken by Michael Neser for Brisbane Heats against Melbourne Renegades.

Ellis has been the pick of bowlers for Hobart Hurricanes this season with 14 wickets from 10 matches at an economy of 8.59 runs per over. Punjab Kings franchise would be hoping that Nathan Ellis can provide the bowling support to help them to win their first-ever IPL title.
