Indian speedster Navdeep Saini will now stay alongside the Indian side for the upcoming test series. Sources suggest that he will remain as a cover and will also take part in the net sessions.
Saini, who was widely lauded for his pace in the cash-rich IPL? made his International debut a few weeks ago. He created an impact in his first game as he bagged the Man of the Match award. What’s further fascinating is his maiden final over which in turn crumbled the West Indies side.
A senior BCCI official was quoted saying to the PTI, “Yes, Saini has been asked to stay back by the team management for the test series. He will stay back primarily as a net bowler, they want to groom him for the tests keeping an eye on the future.”
Saini proved his class in the red-ball cricket as he now has over 120 scalps in just 43 domestic games. Even in the recently concluded ICC CWC 2019, he was with the side as a net bowler.
“Saini has been a performer in red-ball cricket for the past few years. He has the pace, and ability to hit the deck, move the ball both in air and off the pitch. If he is groomed well, it will only increase our pool of fast bowlers for the top tier cricket. That’s how the team management is looking at him,” said the senior BCCI official.
It is worth noting that Navdeep Saini earned a red ball call-up last year for the one-off test against Afghanistan. However, he wasn’t a part of the playing XI.
The Test Series
The two-match Test series will begin this Thursday, August 22. India will be trying to create an early impact in the test championship as they have been dominating in the longest format of the game.
