BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has recently announced that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will soon open. The facility will include three playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, a swimming pool, and also indoor training and recovery areas.

Expert suggestions were requested from ECB and CA by BCCI in 2014 regarding the making of an alternative setup. The new NCA project’s foundation stone was laid by ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah in February 2022 close to Bengaluru Airport.

The previous NCA was set up in 2020 close to M Chinnaswamy Stadium and was utilized for the rehabilitation of injured players. Jay Shah posted on X:

“It fills me with great excitement to inform you all that @BCCI’s new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru is almost ready to be opened soon. The complex would have three excellent playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, an Olympic swimming pool and the latest equipment for training and rehabilitation as well as sports science amenities.

“This initiative will help our nation’s current and future cricketers develop their skills in the best possible environment!” he added.

“The NCA should serve as both the initial and ultimate destination for international cricketers”- Sourav Ganguly

In a previous interview, former India captain Sourav Ganguly discussed the significance of the NCA for Indian cricketers. He mentioned in 2019 (according to Asianage.com):

“NCA has to be the first and final point for International cricketers. it’s a place for Indian cricketers. Everyone has to go through NCA. They play cricket all over the places year long. We will keep the monitoring under NCA. We want to make sure there’s best people with NCA.”

Notable cricketers associated with the NCA include current India head coach Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Murali Karthik, and Harbhajan Singh, among others. The facility has also played a crucial role in the rehabilitation of players such as Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah.
