Nitish Kumar Reddy Gives Update On Rishabh Pant’s Injury

During Day 1 of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury while behind the stumps. The incident occurred when Pant attempted to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah and injured his left index finger in the process.

After visibly being in pain, he received immediate on-field medical attention. However, the discomfort seemed significant enough for the team to remove him from play. His injury forced the team to bring in Dhruv Jurel, who was not part of the original playing XI, as a temporary substitute for wicketkeeping duties.

Team’s Response and Medical Supervision

Speaking after the end of the day’s play, Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy provided an update regarding Pant’s condition. He mentioned that while there were no clear details at the moment, the team would know more about the severity of the injury by the next morning.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also released an official statement, confirming that Pant was under the care of the medical team and receiving treatment. However, the board refrained from giving a definitive timeline for his return or specifying the extent of the damage. Pant’s absence was a significant concern, especially considering his crucial role as a wicketkeeper and middle-order batter.

Dhruv Jurel Steps In as Wicketkeeper

With Pant off the field, Dhruv Jurel was asked to step in and take up the gloves. Although Jurel was not part of the playing XI, ICC regulations permit a substitute fielder to take over wicketkeeping duties in such scenarios, provided they do not participate in batting or bowling. Jurel’s presence was temporary and dependent on Pant’s recovery.

The team’s decision to bring him in highlights the seriousness of Pant’s condition. As the match progresses, all eyes will be on the medical update to determine whether Pant can return to action in this Test or needs more time to recover. For now, India is left hoping that their dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman recovers swiftly and is fit for the remainder of the series.
