Nitish Kumar Reddy has made a remarkable debut in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. The young all-rounder has been a consistent performer in the lower middle order, emerging as one of India’s top contributors with the bat. His efforts have helped the team secure crucial runs and victories in the first two matches of the series.
In the series opener in Perth, Nitish played a vital knock of 41 runs off 59 balls, rescuing India from a precarious position as the team managed only 151 runs in the first innings. He followed it up with an unbeaten 38 off 27 deliveries in the second innings, forming a key partnership with Virat Kohli that set up India’s commanding 295-run win.
Nitish’s excellent form continued in the second Test in Adelaide, where he top-scored for India in both innings with identical knocks of 42. In just two matches, he has accumulated 163 runs, earning praise for his consistency and adaptability.
Unique Sixes Record Sets Nitish Apart
Nitish has also achieved a unique milestone, surpassing players like Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma. He has hit seven sixes in the first two Tests, including six against pacers—a feat no other Indian batter has accomplished in Australia. Among his maximums, Nitish smashed two sixes each off Pat Cummins and Scott Boland, and one each off Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh.
By hitting more than three sixes against pacers in a Test series in Australia, Nitish has set a new benchmark, leaving behind Pant, Rohit, and others who had previously managed three. Nitish’s ability to take on world-class pacers in Australian conditions has made him a standout player in the series.
On the Verge of Breaking Another Record
With seven sixes already, Nitish is closing in on the record for the most sixes by an Indian batter in Test cricket on Australian soil. The current record of 10 sixes, jointly held by Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma, is well within reach as Nitish needs just four more maximums in the remaining three matches to surpass them. His explosive batting has not only added firepower to India’s lower order but also put him on course to achieve yet another milestone in his debut Test series.
