The upsurge of the coronavirus pandemic has led to a lockdown in various places across the globe. The deadly virus had its effect on many global events and it is likely to take a toll on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia with reports emerging that the apex body might postpone the tournament. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rubbished all such claims.
With the hosting nation closing its border for the next six months, the future of the mega event hangs by the wire. As the clouds of uncertainty loom large, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) board committee is likely to sit on May 28 to decide on the future course of actions.

However, it is widely reported that ICC T20 World Cup 2020 is likely to be postponed. Instead, BCCI will host the Indian Premier League during that window. Meanwhile, the postponement of the ICC T20 World Cup to 2022 will also suit Cricket Australia’s (CA) plans. Kevin Roberts, CEO of Cricket Australia recently advocated for an extended Test series against India. He feels this can help them recover some of the losses.
But as far as ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is concerned, it will go as per schedule. India have the hosting rights which is likely to be a grand event.
If the ICC postpones the tournament, IPL 2020 will go ahead during that window. The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic also pushed IPL 2020 for an indefinite period, originally scheduled to commence from March 29.
