No Mohammed Shami; Yash Dayal Excluded As India Squad Announced For The Test Series Against New Zealand

On Friday, October 11, Team India announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand. Yash Dayal, a pacer from Uttar Pradesh and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was excluded from the squad for the Bangladesh tour.

The original 16-man squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh has been largely retained, with Dayal as the only omission. Additionally, Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed vice-captain after Team India opted not to name one for the Bangladesh series.

This decision appears to be a response to reports that regular captain Rohit Sharma might miss the series opener for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Mohammad Shami is also absent, as he aims for a return in the Ranji Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a press release on their official X account announcing the squad for the three Tests against New Zealand.

India’s squad for the three Tests against New Zealand: Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep

Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna were also announced as the four travelling reserves.

Team India will face New Zealand in a three-match Test series starting October 16

Team India and New Zealand will meet in a Test series for the first time since 2021, beginning October 16 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The teams will then head to Pune for the second Test on October 24, with the final Test set for November 1 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In 2021, New Zealand visited India for a two-Test series, drawing the first Test before losing the second by 372 runs, resulting in a 1-0 series defeat.
