“No Russell Or Maxwell”: R Ashwin Predicts Star All-Rounder Will Shine At IPL 2026 Auction

Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to earn big at the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi. Ashwin believes that the recent retirements and withdrawals of Andre Russell and Glenn Maxwell have significantly boosted Green’s chances of securing a high bid.

Russell surprised fans by announcing his IPL retirement just days before the auction, following his release by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Maxwell, meanwhile, withdrew from the IPL 2026 auction and hinted at a possible permanent exit from the league.

Ravichandran Ashwin also tipped England all-rounder Liam Livingstone to attract a large bid, benefiting from the absence of Russell and Maxwell. Discussing the recent developments and their effect on Green’s auction value, Ashwin said on his YouTube channel (via Crikipedia’s Instagram handle):

“Ask Cameron Green to book 4-5 acres near the Sydney harbor. He has entered the auction this time and there is no Andre Russell or Glenn Maxwell. CSK fans put him ( Maxwell) at No. 6 and were waiting for him but now that chance is gone. So Liam Livingstone and Cameron Green have a big jackpot at the auction.”

Cameron Green Shines with Exceptional T20 Form This Year

Cameron Green has been in outstanding form in T20Is since returning from injury. The 26-year-old has scored at an average of 43 with a strike rate close to 169 across eight T20Is in 2025. He has also resumed his bowling duties since the first Test of the ongoing Ashes series.

Although he missed the 2025 IPL season due to injury, Green had impressive performances in the previous two editions. He played a key role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024, helping them make a strong playoff push by scoring at an average of nearly 32 with a strike rate of 143.25 in 13 matches.

Earlier, in IPL 2023, he was instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) playoff run, amassing 452 runs at an average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28 across 16 games. Green has also taken 16 wickets in his 29-match IPL career, including 10 wickets in the 2024 season with RCB.
